It wasn't the fear of dying that worried me. It was shame. People would think I was either very promiscuous or an intravenous drug user. I wished I had cancer instead.

Robin Barkins I knew it meant my prayers had been answered. I was accepted into a drug treatment program where I learned the tools to overcome my addiction and stopped living in denial. I took charge of my health and got my life back.

I knew in that very moment I was supposed to go back to school to become a nurse practitioner and start an AIDS service organization in my hometown.
