Emerging data suggest that starting antiretroviral therapy earlier than is currently recommended provides even greater protection against illness and death. But starting treatment when CD4s fall below 500, as opposed to the current 350 cutoff, may not be as easy as some imagine.

Beth Benne: Nursing HIV Awareness
Beth Benne, RN, is HIV negative, but the virus has impacted her life. She currently supervises a biannual HIV/AIDS awareness week as the director of the student health center at Pierce College, a community commuter school in Woodland Hills, California.
