A very different tone from this, which isn't atypical- see www.aidsmap.com/Pre-exposure-prophylaxis-also-stoâ?¦/â?¦/ The big news about Ipergay is that it worked in a bunch of real men, not that it might not work in a bunch of theoretical ones. That's what effectiveness means. Ipergay shows, excitingly [and no one was more surprised than me when it worked!] that PrEP is a robust and adaptable method of of HIV prevention which may be effective in a number of different ways.
alas, the hand-wringing over gay men's sex lives is eternal. this article is reaching for an argumentative goal that can never be reached...due to the ethics-practices of Institutional Review Boards. i'll leave the hand-wringing caveats to others and commence discussing intermittent, on-demand PrEP wheresoever there is a need for enhanced HIV prevention. starting with gay men and trans women.

Gus, i advise readers to type in aidsmapDOTcomSLASHcroi2015 and then click the PrEP IPERGAY link. Ben Ryan's article is well-written and his critique of the IPERGAY protocol as needing far more investigation to know if it works for infrequent sex is salient, but highly overstated. it is part of a pattern of general hand-wringing that almost inevitably accompanies news on biomedical prevention. so many are so anxious about releasing so many other anxieties inflicted on ourselves from within/-out!
