Calling their country’s 18 nevirapine pilot programs “a drop in the ocean,” South Africa-based Treatment Action Campaign (TAC) is suing the government to provide the drug for all HIV positive moms-to-be. The health ministry’s own study predicts that it could prevent transmission in 14,000 pregnancies -- at $30 per kid, TAC says. Pilot programs serve 10 percent of the country’s pregnant women.
