The rise of infections is directly correlated, in my opinion, with the ease of MSM sex being facilitated through random, anonymous sex hookups facilitated by new smartphone geo-locator apps that are for that very purpose - to hookup. It has turned the process of meeting someone out in public (old process) to the modern day McDonalds drive-through/convenience store of sex. I can personally attest to the increased availability and frequency of sex due to the new apps originated during this time.
