Discussion about using chimpanzees in AIDS research should include the world's foremost chimpanzee researcher Jane Goodall. I imagine Dr. Goodall would be very resistant to giving her ok to any of this given the appalling and horrific treatment of chimpanzees in the name of AIDS research that has already occurred. The beautiful cover image of the chimpanzee is marred by the cliched title "Monkey Business." Chimpanzees are not monkeys.
Research on Chimpanzee is such a CRIME. How anyone can justify research on any animal is crazy. THEY ARE NOT HUMAN - they may be close but they are not HUMAN. SHOULD WE EXPERIMENT ON HUMANS TO HELP CHIMP DISEASES OR EXPERIMENT ON HUMANS FOR RATS? HUMANS WILL BE THE END ALL FOR EVERYTHING!
Is the irony that HIV was most likely born from humans killing primates lost on anyone? HIV doesn't progress in chimps, so testing on them doesn't provide valid results. We have the means to test in other ways, and we should be using them.
Interesting article, though I wonder whether Ms. Scott realizes that the order primates includes humans as well.
This virus has finished most of my community, and you guys are worried about hurting a few monkeys? Where are your priorities?
It is disappointing to learn that scientists are still going to use chimpanzees in research. Is it because they can?????
There are many things I wish I could change or at least prevent. For example the affect the drugs have on our liver. Its kinds like living and waiting for the terrible suffering end and there isn't a way out!
Bandersnatch
Boy, I bet the Neanderthals are extremely happy that they went extinct, or we would be using them as lab rats.
