Since most vaccines rely on the production of virus-specific antibodies, doesn't this research render the pursuit of an antibody-based vaccine futile? Are there vaccines being pursued for HIV that do not rely on the production of antibodies? For that matter, could a synthetic super-antibody be produced that could reach the distance required for the HIV protein spikes?
