I'm working on a study at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center that measures cognitive decline in both an older and younger cohort, and each has a control group of HIV-negative volunteers. As AVIIV surmises, older individuals do show cognitive decline (not HAND, which is HIV-Associated Neururocognitive Disorder). But there are also differences between the positives and negative controls. HIV seems to exacerbate the cognitive problems associated with aging.
