Valuable research could result from a discovery like this. Just how were Lemurs able to fight off the virus? What physiological mechanisms have arisen and can insight be derived from their biochemistry? Inquiring minds want to know, and a possible strategy to fight off this scourge might be facilitated. Long live science!

uhm, viruses trade genetic material all the time. who says that the viral ancestors of the Madagasgar lentivirus didn't come over on teh wings of a bird alot sooner than 160 million years ago? is crossing from birds to primates impossible? the existence of bird flu suggests otherwise, and researchers clearly dont know enuff to claim that lentiviruses cannot make that leap.
