thank god I don't live in texas...abstinence???really...it worked so well with teen pregnancy...just like texas to get it wrong again.
Are these people crazy? I never had sex with anyone other than my husband for over 20 years and I still turned out to be HIV positive. What's abstinence got to do with it? There are too many other avenues for HIV infection.
Teaching abstinence is a waste of time because morality is a thing of days past - in 1950 it made sense but in the 21st century where everyone is parading nude on the internet why bother?
Just another way for the Republicans to show their ignorance and their need to force their morality on everyone else!
Okay but only if it also applies to all heterosexuals living in Texas as well including those heteros who have had current or past sexual relations with wives, husbands, children, call girls, animals, friends, cadavers, migrant workers, tourists, strangers, clergy,Rick Perry, Louie Gohmert and any Texas politician!
The right apparently holds the fairy tale image that every American is a good Christian and will simply abstain from sex until they are married (which BTW, I wonder if they hold this value for LGBT people since we are allowed to marry now. Yup, let's bury our head in the sand so we don't see anything. All is rosy. Slaaaaaaaap! I feel much better now!
It figures it WOULD be a Republican that would do something so mindless. The state of Texas will now have a great increase in HIV.

Abstinence? Seriously? Rather than promote HIV/AIDS education and treatment, Texas lawmakers are taking yet another step backwards into advocating that gay men DO NOT have sex. In addition to being dehumanizing, promoting abstinence ignores that HIV infection is usually the results of past sexual behavior. It's closing the barn after the cow has escaped. What is wrong with the state of Texas? Conservative should not translate into impractical, retroactive and just plain dumb.
