December 2004

by Sandrea-Lee Swaby

In September, the American Academy of HIV Medicine crowned a new executive director: Howard Grossman, MD, a world-class AIDS doc and leading activist for gay, AIDS and patient rights.

In August, iconic ’70s band Queen—whose frontman, Freddie Mercury died of AIDS in 1991—became the first rockers to sell an album legally in Iran.

Hospice pioneer Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, MD, whose pop-psych books from the ’70s revolutionized AIDS health care, died August 24 of natural causes.
