Afghan AIDS

by Walter Armstrong

HIV will soon join women and music among what can be publicly displayed in newly liberated Afghanistan. The World Health Organization has sent testing kits to 18 of the strife-stricken nation's 44 hospitals, enabling rates of STDs to be estimated for the first time. Although only 10 cases of HIV have been reported in the opium-rich land, needle-drug use is climbing.
