Break Time

by Tim Murphy

Had HIV for more than a few months before starting HAART? Alas, drug breaks may not prime your immune system to fight the virus med-free, as studies suggest they can do in folks who hit HAART right after infection. So found a Swiss study of 133 non-newbies whose virus after stopping HAART failed to settle much lower than before meds. But they didn't set much higher, either -- so while doc-supervised drug breaks may not help, they may not hurt, either.
