A new University of North Carolina study shows that cocktail-taking viral newbies drop to undetectable in two to six months. So, given that HIVers are most infectious right after seroconversion, should instant postconversion combos be the next big HIV-prevention thing? No, said the docs: “HAART can only be justified if aimed at improving long-term prognosis, [not infection rates].” But the data suggest how well, and fast, HAART can stop HIV.
