Canada’s Harper Dodges Harm Reduction

August 18, 2006—Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper won’t comment on pending threats to close two safe-injection-site programs because the issue is currently too “politicized.” The Vancouver sites offer clean equipment, medical supervision and counseling to injection drug users. The Conservative PM is also under the gun about his absence from this week’s International AIDS Conference in Toronto.
