Vaccines: The News is Good and Not So Good
September 1, 2006—A Swedish HIV vaccine in phase I trials has caused strong immune responses, suggesting it might prove effective in fighting off the virus. However, U.S. military researchers reported that new strains of HIV showing up in West and East Africa combine viral subtypes and may not be affected by vaccines currently in development.
