Is Racism to Blame for Inaction in Africa?
September 7, 2006—UN Special Envoy for HIV in Africa Stephen Lewis yesterday blamed racism for the West’s insufficient response to AIDS in Africa, comparing it to global inaction during the Rwandan genocide of 1994. With AIDS meds costing just $130 per person per year, he said, Western nations could easily save million of lives if HIV were a priority.
