Judge Bars NYC Rent Hike for Positive People

October 31, 2006—A federal judge granted an injunction yesterday barring a steep rent increase for the 2,200 HIV positive adults in New York City who live in subsidized housing. AIDS group Housing Works requested the injunction, saying it will increase residents’ contribution from about 30% of their income to about 75%. The ruling gives the city 45 days to make a case for the hike.
