Money Matters

The New York Times looks today at how a new generation of economists is addressing “fundamental questions” such as, for example, the link between economics and HIV. Emily Oster’s research, which she presented to the President’s Commission on AIDS, was based on observations that while relatively well-off Africans had cut back on unsafe sex in order to prevent HIV transmission, poorer Africans saw less incentive to do so because they didn’t expect to live as long.
