Anti-Generics Lawsuit Sparks Protests
California Representative Henry Waxman (D) wrote pharmaceutical company Novartis AG a letter yesterday asking them to reconsider a lawsuit against the Indian government for developing generic versions of the company’s patented drugs. The suit, which has prompted a trial that resumes today in Chennai, India, has also sparked protests there and in the United States. Yesterday in Cambridge, Massachusetts, several dozen activists from the Student Global AIDS Campaign picketed outside Novartis headquarters.
