Brazil to Buy Generic Sustiva

Brazil announced plans yesterday to buy a generic version of Merck and Co.’s efavirenz (sold as Sustiva in the U.S.) if the pharmaceutical company does not drop the price of the drug. Brazilian Health Minister Jose Gomes Temporao declared the drug a “public interest” medication, as it is now the country’s most widely used AIDS med.
