New Shot of Funds for Needle Exchanges
The California Assembly voted Tuesday, June 5, to repeal a ban on using state funds to purchase clean needles for drug users—which could now help boost HIV prevention and harm reduction. The move came just days after state health officials approved $750,000 a year going to needle exchange programs to foot various operating costs. Governor Schwarzenegger had vetoed a similar bill but has not announced a position on the current version.
