HIV Jitters in Iran

An influx of cheap heroin from Afghanistan and increased sexual transmission have pushed up HIV infection rates in Iran. Iranian UNICEF officials fear that the current rate of 0.16 percent of the population—while relatively low compared to other parts of the world—may shoot up to 1.9 percent.
