Nelson Mandela celebrated his 89th birthday yesterday by launching a new group of global figures called the Elders to take on international crises such as AIDS. Members of the group include former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, former U.N. Secretary General Kofi Annan and former Archbishop of Cape Town Desmond Tutu.
