HIV positive adolescents in Uganda prefer to date HIV negative people, according to a study by the Pediatric Infectious Disease Clinic in Mulago. The youths sited fear of re-infection, especially when trying to have babies, as a major reason. The study also showed widespread misinformation, such as that HIV could not be passed on through semen.
Beth Benne, RN, is HIV negative, but
the virus has impacted her life. She currently supervises a biannual HIV/AIDS awareness week as
the director of the student health center at Pierce College, a
community commuter school in Woodland Hills, California.
