Nunsense in Taiwan

Monday, August 29, 2005—The Taiwanese government yanked an AIDS campaign poster last week, under pressure from the local Catholic Church, featuring the smiling face of a nun grasping a condom with both hands. “Although I don’t use it—I know,” the safety-savvy sister pronounced from posters in subway trains and on hospital condom machines. Condemning the campaign as a “serious insult,” the Church won an apology from the group behind the ads, the Taipei Sexually Transmitted Disease Control Center.
