FDA Debates Home HIV Tests

November 4, 2005—A Food and Drug Administration advisory panel heard arguments for and against a 20-minute home HIV test yesterday, a debate weighing the benefits of getting more people into treatment against the lack of counseling for those testing positive. According to Reuters, the panel appeared to support marketing the tests directly to consumers, pending further studies about the way people might use them incorrectly at home.
