AZT Shortage?

November 10, 2005—AIDS Healthcare Foundation (AHF), the largest U.S. AIDS organization, sounded an alarm
today about a worldwide shortage of AZT, which is a component of the
popular meds Combivir and Trizivir. According to AHF, GlaxoSmithKline
poorly calculated the demand for AZT in developing countries, where
U.S. emergency relief funds (known as PEPFAR) will purchase only GSK’s
brand-name version of the med: Retrovir.
