Singapore Notifies HIV Spouses
by Staff
December 6, 2005—Singapore health officials are notifying marriage partners about their HIV positive spouses in order to reduce transmission rates, the health minister announced yesterday. Since July, 41 women have found out their hubbies are ill through hand-delivered letters that include suggestions about screening and counseling. Only two of the women have tested positive, the government said. Singapore has reported 2,584 HIV infections to date, one of Asia’s lowest rates.
