Herpes During Pregnancy Increases Babies’ HIV Risk
December 29, 2005—HIV positive women who are diagnosed with herpes during pregnancy may be five times as likely to pass on the HIV to their babies, according to a study reported in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Less clear, say researchers, is how treatment might address such a
relationship between the two viruses—whether anti-herpes medicine, for
instance, might help prevent HIV from being passed on.
