HIV Digs In South of the Border
February 28, 2006—HIV rates in the border town of Tijuana
are three times Mexico’s average, according to a new study from the
University of California at San Diego. The researchers blame the rise
on the border zone’s drug trade and sex industry, along with the
extra vulnerability of migrants. Millions of Americans visit Tijuana
every year and 64% of the city’s population heads north at least once a
month.
