Sustiva Price Cut for Poor Countries
March 8, 2006—Merck announced plans yesterday to make a 20% cut in the price of its AIDS med Stocrin (efavirenz, known as Sustiva in the U.S.) in developing countries. Earlier this year, Bill Clinton brokered a deal to help drug factories in India and South Africa produce a generic version of the drug for about the same price.
