Christian Group Drops Abstinence Slogan
March 23, 2006—Christian Aid, an international aid organization based in the UK and Ireland, has lost faith in the idea of teaching abstinence as a means of HIV prevention, the group announced this week. Instead of embracing the slogan ABC, which stands for Abstinence; Be faithful; use Condoms, the group’s new motto is SAVE—Safer practices; Available medications; Voluntary counseling and testing; Empowerment through education. United for Life criticized the move.
