State by State, Abstinence Trumps Sex Ed
July 20, 2006—Despite bipartisan support among New York State legislators, a moderate bill to help boost sex ed in public schools never became law because of broader political forces on the national level, according to a column in yesterday’s New York Times. The Healthy Teens Act languished, the author argues, because it was up against the budget incentives and ideological influences of the Bush administration’s abstinence-only campaigns.
