Saudi Arabia Confronts HIV

August 8, 2006—The Saudi Arabian government announced this summer that more than 10,000 citizens are HIV positive, in the country’s first-ever acknowledgement of the problem. As many as 80,000 people may be infected, and strict taboos about discussing sex continue to block prevention and treatment efforts.
