A Great Hydeia

by Kevin O'Leary

Who’s that girl?” cried fashionistas when they saw the new face of FUBU (For Us By Us), the über-popular clothing line for the hip-hop set. While Donna and Calvin may have been reaching for their golden Nokias, HIVers ahead of the curve recognized the model as easy, breezy, beautiful POZ cover girl (October 1997) and Essence “Spirit” award winner Hydeia L. Broadbent. The 15-year-old Las Vegan is a fighter from birth—she braved the pediatric ward and the talk-show circuit—but can she handle the catty runways of Milan? Keep in mind that galpals call the four-feet-and-rising star Ms. B—for big and bossy—a hint that she is more than ready for her close-up. Tommy, take note.
