Don’t log on for an HIV test, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) warned consumers in June: Docs and doc poseurs have flooded the Internet with bogus test kits. Wary of tests promising “lightning-fast results,” the FTC gave them a whirl. When several failed to recognize HIV in known positive samples, the agency red-flagged cybershoppers: Only one test, the Home Access Express HIV-1 Test System, has the FDA nod.
