Farewells

by Mark O'Donnell

The best of underwear loses its elastic.
At least the bankrupt storefront makes a funky gypsy home.
On radio: "Due to heavy snow, Our Savior is closed."
The dead neighbor still gets mail from Planned Parenthood.
Strange moment: The despised landlady died today.
Leaving family reunions, remember: Kiss the woman, hug the men.
Gorgeous sunset on a crumbling ghetto: a mother calls her children in.
Falling asleep: Distant car alarm, then everything starts to float.
If you've made your peace, zero is a positive number.
We may not meet again, but, ah, we have met.
