Fashion With Compassion in NYC

Thursday, November 15, marked the beginning of this year’s 7th on Sale AIDS fund-raising shopping event, an online auction that offers 30,000 individual items—valued at over $9 million—with opening bids at one-tenth retail value beginning yesterday and continuing through December 6. From November 16 through 18, shoppers can peruse goods in person at the 69th Regiment Armory in New York City. All proceeds will benefit HIV/AIDS charities (msnbc.com, 11/16).

The online auction will offer items from designers such as Donna Karan, Dolce & Gabbana and Calvin Klein. Celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, Demi Moore, Fergie and Sarah Jessica Parker have also contributed their own designer clothing for auction through the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CDFA).

In addition, the M· A· C AIDS Fund has pledged to match every dollar up to $500,000 raised through the online auction.

7th On Sale was launched by the CDFA and Vogue magazine in 1990, and has raised nearly $12 million to fight HIV/AIDS.
