Emergency Summit on ADAP Funding in Florida
The Florida Department of Health’s Bureau of HIV/AIDS is negotiating an emergency agreement to supply medications to 6,000 participants of the state’s AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), The Florida Independent reports. Tom Liberti, director of the bureau, made that announcement at an ADAP emergency summit in Fort Lauderdale. The bureau is negotiating an agreement with Welvista, a national mail-order pharmacy that hopes to supply HIV meds donated from pharmaceutical companies to patients who won’t get their medication in February and March. A funding crisis has left nearly 3,000 people on the state’s ADAP waiting list, but new Ryan White federal money will be available April 1.
