AIDS Memorial Quilt Seeks Support to Travel to Capital
The NAMES Project Foundation, the custodian of the AIDS
Memorial Quilt, seeks volunteers and financial sponsors to help bring the Quilt
to Washington, DC, this summer, according to a NAMES statement. The Quilt will “blanket”
the capital region during the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in June and during the
XIX International AIDS Conference (AIDS 2012) in July. Sections of the Quilt
will be displayed on the National Mall and more than 40 additional venues. The
Quilt currently consists of more than 47,000 panels representing the lives of
94,000 people, and it weighs about 54 tons.
