The Miami-based nonprofit Alert Health Inc., which provides preventive health services for chronic diseases such as hepatitis and HIV/AIDS, will permanently close June 30 because of funding constraints, according to an Alert Health statement. The organization has served more than 33,000 people since 1997, when it was founded as Hep-C Alert. Although the organization experienced a 900 percent increase in client visits between 2004 and 2008, it failed to secure several critical grants in 2009, which contributed to its current situation.
