Affordable Care Act Celebrates First Anniversary
March 24 is the one-year anniversary of President Obama signing the Affordable Care Act (a.k.a. health care reform) into law. Groups nationwide are marking the occasion in nearly 200 gatherings, The Washington Post reports. Many components of the law have yet to be implemented, but some changes are already in effect. Examples include forbidding insurers from denying coverage to sick children, allowing young adults to stay on their parents’ insurance until age 26, creating high-risk insurance pools and offering a $250 rebate to seniors for prescription drugs. Full implementation of the law goes into effect in 2014.
