HIV-Positive Armani Exchange Mexico Employee Claims Discrimination
Jose Antonio Lopez Perez, an HIV-positive man in Mexico, has filed a complaint against a local Armani Exchange and staffing company, claiming he was fired because of his HIV status, El Universal reports. The complaint states that after Lopez Perez revealed his status, he was asked not to use the bathroom in the store or drink water from cups other employees could also use. Eventually, he was asked to sign resignation papers against his will. The local staffing company, Apoyo Profesional de Outsourcing SA de CV, has said his claims are false and that no employee at the store witnessed discriminatory actions. Lopez Perez is now in the process of finding government health care to replace the health insurance he lost and to get back on medications.
