Australian Man Who Used HIV Threat Is Guilty of Extortion
An Australian man was sentenced to two and a half years in prison for attempting to extort thousands of dollars from neighbors using the threat of HIV and hepatitis infection, The Sydney Morning Herald reports. Cris Anonuevo, a resident of Sydney and a father of two, was convicted of sending anonymous extortion letters to neighboring families threatening to destroy their homes or rape or kill their children or give them HIV or viral hepatitis. He was caught and arrested after failing to collect money and claimed that he was more than $100,000 in debt and wanted money to support his family.
