Better Existence with HIV (BEHIV), a Chicago-based AIDS service organization, is closing after 21 years of service, the Windy City Times reports. In a statement, BEHIV cited reduced donations from individuals during the past two years and a changing funding relationship with the AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) as its reasons for closing. AFC in response described as “inaccurate” the BEHIV description of the funding situation. BEHIV—which provided case management, prevention, housing and mental health services, as well as educational outreach, art and massage therapy—is working to transfer active service contracts to other local agencies.
