Betsie Gallardo, an HIV-positive inmate in Florida dying of cancer, has been given a medical release from state prison to a Miami-Dade hospice, The Miami Herald reports. The terms of her release stipulate that she be considered as if she were under house arrest. The only way that she can return to her family in Indiana is if the state department of corrections accepts custody of her. Gallardo was serving a five-year sentence for biting a police officer and was scheduled for release in 2014.
