Authorities in military-ruled Burma are allowing an AIDS care home to remain open after earlier saying it had to be shut down, The Associated Press (AP) reports. Officials had ordered 80 residents and staff to move from the home following a visit by Aung San Suu Kyi, the Nobel Peace Prize winner who was recently released from house arrest by the country’s ruling military leaders. While the state-run newspaper reported that health officials found the shelter to be unhygienic, shelter staff believe the eviction was politically motivated. Officials now say the shelter can stay open, but permits must be renewed weekly at the discretion of officials.
