Ex-Chief of Philadelphia HIV Group Sentenced to Year in Prison for $139K Theft

The former executive director of COLOURS Inc., a Philadelphia group that provides HIV prevention programs for LGBT people of color, has been sentenced to 12 months and a day in federal prison for stealing roughly $139,000 from the organization, the Philadelphia Daily News reports.

According to the article, Donna Kearney, 52, of Lindenwold, New Jersey, was also ordered to make restitution of $138,768 to the city and surrender to the Bureau of Prisons on April 9. Last June, she pleaded guilty to one count of theft of the program’s federal funds, which she spent on fur clothing, cruises to the Caribbean, vacations, cosmetic surgery and dog training.

Kearney’s attorney Joseph P. Capone urged for leniency in her sentencing, citing health problems such as hypertension, cerebral vascular disease and chronic back pain. Assistant U.S. Attorney Richard Barrett responded that her health concerns would be properly addressed by the Bureau of Prison’s medical staff.

Disgraceful beyond a doubt but when the other ladies in the cell block hear about this one, Ms. Kearney just may get some more plastic surgery, but this time free of charge!
