California Minors Can Access HIV, STI Prevention Without Parental Consent
California Governor Jerry Brown (D-Calif.) has signed a law allowing children as young as 12 to receive specific preventative treatments for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) without parental consent, The Associated Press reports. These include post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) for HIV, as well as vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV), a known cause of cervical cancer. California law already permits minors to get diagnosis and treatment for STIs without parental consent.
